Movies to Watch: Hachi - A Dog's Tale

WOW!!! Ryan was reading our Entertainment Weekly Magazine and suggested this movie, saying it was a sad movie about a dog...so of course I was hesitant being that I love dogs.

Truth be told though, this movie was so touching, heartwarming and moving; it made me realize all over again how powerful the love and devotion between ourselves and our pets can be. If you've ever had a dog, wanted a dog or just like dogs in general, this is a must watch. 

A feeling of sadness engulfed me after watching it. I am at a loss for words to describe this movie as no other movie has ever touched me so deeply. I was pretty much crying and sobbing the entire second half of the film and by the time it was over, it brought me down to my knees.

Without giving the story away...the premise behind the movie is about the loyalty that exists between a man and his dog even beyond life in the physical world. It's proof that love never dies and that animals...dogs in particular...have the uncanny ability to just feel and love without boundaries, logic or reason. They just do and once they're loyal to you, they'll love you forever.

Interestingly enough, this movie was based on a true story...which makes it even more amazing. Richard Gere was wonderful in his role and Jason Alexander played a great supporting role and the dog deserves an Oscar. Who knew dogs could act so convincingly? You can actually see the thoughts and emotions in the dog's expressions, and what a gorgeous dog it was. I had never given much thought to Akitas before, but I'm deeply impressed! It'll make you want to jump through the screen and give him a hug.

I had a chihuahua named Princess and the movie brought back memories of how sad and depressed I felt, even months after she passed away. I experienced such undying, unconditional love and loyalty from my Princess, and it made this movie extra special for me. If there was ever a movie that I will remember for the rest of my life, this has to be it. This is a must see for any person with a heart and soul. I know I am a better person today after watching this and I am confident it might also have the same effect on some of you. Thanks for reading and do take care whoever you are. Love your dogs and always remember that he/she will always be there for you even in your darkest, loneliest hours.

Ugh, if anything pisses me off more, it's the teasers of television series or movies.  I can't wait for what is brewing in Season 4 of True Blood.  Watch the trailer.  Are Witches brewing something?  My guess is yes...

Being Human Premieres Tonight on SyFy

3 weeks ago I mentioned on Facebook that a new Showtime series, "Shameless" would be premiering in the U.S. with great reviews; the remake from the British series was quite spectacular, Ryan and I will be watching it.  Too bad I can't say the same for MTV's remake of SKINS; how can you produce a show without it's principal gay character, Maxxie?

In either case, another great British show goes American.  I saw the promo for SyFy's remake of "Being Human" and it's peaked my interest a bit.  I guess it helps that all the characters are beautiful and sexy.  Sex sells, what can you say?

If you're a curious about how a vampire, wolf, and ghost live together, I highly recommend taking a peak for yourself.

Chris Colfer from Glee, and the movie, The Social Network, win big at Golden Globes

I read it was a pretty interesting Golden Globes Awards show last night.  Unfortunately, I didn't get the chance to view all these actors and actresses parading around the stage last night; I had other matters to attend to.  In either case, I was glad to hear The Social Network won the Best Picture Drama, I thought it was a really great movie, but I also thought The Black Swan was amazing as well.  Natalie Portman did win for Best Actress in the respective category.  But the greatest news of the night, two openly gay actors from the show, Glee, won best supporting actress and best supporting actor for their portrayal of Kurt and Sue Sylvester in series or mini-series made for television.

OMG Hilarious!

Definitely a Wonder Woman

This definitely takes a lot of talent.  I'm actually quite impressed with Miss Arkansas's 2011 performance in the Miss America Pageant.  Not only did she yodle her way through "I wanna be a cowboy sweetheart," but she did it with two dummies (one on each side).   Miss Alyse Eady ended up winning first runner-up during last night's performance.

Bloggin' vs. Facebookin'

 
It feels like so long ago when I ended Peter's Daily Blog on MySpace, that I didn't realize how much I actually missed it.

We go on with our daily lives Facebooking, not realizing that our life is being shared daily with our friends and family. There are times we wish to reflect on the past, the good times especially, and before you know it, it's gone. We share things with people we don't know in the physical sense, yet they are there to listen. We share things with the people we love, yet they seem to forget.

Countless times I have attempted to remember what I've posted on Facebook and what I've told the people I love or the great discussions we've had. And it's difficult to go back and reflect on all the good that's happened in our lives, or all the drama that's made us laugh. In order for me to go back I have to keep clicking that "older posts" link, without a date, without a tag, without no way of searching for that special moment I wanted to remember forever.''

Instead, I've decided to keep track of my most important memories and my most important laughs through a blog, in hope that I can go back and trace the good or the bad that's happened in my life. In addition, the joy of talking about, celebrities, politics, religion and world around us. I hope that you will follow me on this journey and enjoy it with me.

Columbia just released this first peek of Andrew as Spider-Man, and as many reservations as I have about the movie (too soon to reboot? too ugly to play Peter?) I gotta say, I got a little spidey tingle looking at this. 

2008 Election - First Time Since 1952

Just to let everyone know - 2008 will be a very important year in our lives.  This will be the first election without incumbents since 1952.

If you have no idea what that means; when a United States President leaves office, his Vice President is more often than not considered a leading candidate and likely nominee to succeed him.

2008 will mark the first time since 1952 in which there is neither and incumbent president nor an incumbent vice-president running in the presidential election.This will also be the most expensive election in American History.

In January 2007, Federal Election Commission Chairman Michael Toner stated that the 2008 U.S. presidential race will be "the most expensive election in American history". Toner estimated that the 2008 race will be a "$1 billion election", and that to be "taken seriously", a candidate will need to raise at least $100 million by the end of 2007.

Did you know...

• That several of our states, including California, Idaho, Oregon, Texas and Washington, became states by just ONE vote?

• That in 1948, Lyndon B. Johnson, our 36th president, became a U.S. senator by a ONE vote margin?

• And that same year, if Thomas E. Dewey had gotten ONE vote more per precinct in Ohio and California, the presidential election would have been thrown to the U.S. House of Representatives, where Dewey enjoyed more support than his rival -- incumbent Harry S. Truman? In fact, Dewey was expected to win the general election by a landslide, so most Republicans stayed home. Only 51.5 percent of the electorate voted in 1948, and Truman defeated Dewey.

Not convinced?

• In the 1960 presidential election, ONE additional vote per precinct in Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey and Texas would have denied John F. Kennedy the presidency and put Richard M. Nixon in office eight years earlier.

• In recent years, the outcomes of many state and congressional races have been reversed as recounts have shifted a handful of votes from one candidate to another.

• Each and every vote is the voice of a citizen of the United States of America. One voice speaking out can change the course of history.

WHY VOTE?

...Because it is your fundamental right as an American, and the most basic means by which you have a voice in how your government works. By voting, you participate in a process that determines who will represent you, your family, and your neighbors in your community, your state, and your country.

Most states require that you register to vote, and aside from registering at your local election office, you may register by mail, when you get or renew your drivers' license, when you apply or are recertified for benefits in public assistance agencies, and in agencies serving people with disabilities.

States must also conduct registration in an agency system of their choosing, such as libraries or unemployment offices. In addition to these places, many civic organizations and political parties sponsor voter registration drives at colleges and universities, shopping malls, work sites, fairs, and other community events.

While the number of individuals registered to vote is at an all time high, we have yet to see a corresponding rise in active voting. In the last presidential election in 2000, 51.3 percent of the voting age population turned out to vote. The numbers tend to fall during the off-year elections for Congress: in 1998, only 36.4 percent of the voting age population made it to the polls.

Why don't more Americans register and vote? The most likely reason–they don't think their one vote will make a difference. But what if just one person on every street or in every voting precinct thought that way? We might find that the course of history would change.
