Blade's Box of Jams: Track #13 - Hard Candy Christmas
Currently listening to...
Dolly Parton
Not sure how many of you have ever seen the movie, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, but it is by far one of my favorite movies. Not only because it stars country music legend and gay icon, Dolly Parton, but because the nature of the story behind it. She had two of her most memorable songs debut on this movie, "Hard Candy Christmas" and "I Will Always Love You", both of which became her biggest hits. The movie also boasts a couple more songs that will rile anybody up. They are fun and energetic - you'd almost think it was a musical. Two YouTube commenters, summed it best:
Gid I love this song, have since I was a little gir...I am 33 now and its still my ultimate top favorite christmas song!! - DarcyHeartsElvis
I think the song depicts all trials and tribulations that we go through..I know for me, it is from a house fire that we had back in July and though they said we would be back in our home for Christmas, thanks to the screwed up insurance company, it won't be until after Christmas..Also, because of the insurance company not living up to the policy that we bought, my daughter and I are not going to have much of a Christmas thanks to no money..But we are not going to let that get us down...- MsDiscouraged

The Science Behind Santa
So how does Santa see all those children on Christmas eve? Science suggests that only 33 percent of the world population believes in Christmas, and when one calculates the different time zones, along with an average 1 out of 3 kids per household not on the naughty list... oh wait... but then you have to calculate the weight of the presents, calculate the amount of time it takes to stop at each house and go down the chimney...
We learn that Santa needs to visit 1,800 houses per second in order to deliver all of his toys, meaning he travels at 24,000 times the speed of sound. (Not that plausible, but who knows what kind of magic Santa is capable of?) One reality that is harder to explain away is the fact that by traveling so fast, the reindeer will absorb so much energy in flight that "they will burst into flame almost instantaneously." Oh, poor Rudolph! But who knows, maybe they wear some kind of flame-retardant suits that Mrs. Claus makes for them. - Jezebel

Margaret Thatcher On The Cover of Newsweek
Margaret Thatcher landed on the cover of Newsweek and I forgot to share it with you. Oh, I'm sorry, my bad - did I say Margaret Thatcher? I meant Meryl Streep. She has such an uncanny resemblance to the former Prime Minister of Britain.
There hasn't been a movie I haven't liked where Streep has played a part in it. From Silkwood, Marvin's Room, Angels in America, Mamma Mia!, Lions for Lambs, and The Hours, the list goes on. She's an amazing actress. Hence, the reason I can't wait to see her new movie, The Iron Lady which opens January 06, 2012.

The Joys of Being a Parent: Military Dad Surprises Two Daugthers Sitting on Santa's Lap
You can't help but shed a tear after watching this video. Unbeknownst to the two young girls sitting on Santa's lap, they're dad has come home early for Christmas.
He pats them on their shoulders and heads not realizing it isn't Santa, but their dad standing behind him doing it. Overwhelmed with joy they hug their father endlessly.
Definintely one of the many joys of being a parent.

Crimes of the Century - No. 4 - The Fatty Arbuckle Scandal
THE FATTY ARBUCKLE SCANDAL, 1920
When the world first read about the events of Sept. 3, 1920 in the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco, the plotline appeared to be tabloid-headline loud and clear: during a wild party, an obese Hollywood comedy star takes advantage of a naive young actress, puncturing her bladder during forced sex (with a beer bottle!); she dies a painful death of peritonitis. The star was Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, perhaps the first film actor to be paid an annual salary of $1 million, an amazing sum in the silent film industry.
Insisting he had done nothing wrong, Arbuckle nevertheless went through three trials, hounded by newspapers and morality groups each time. His movies were banned in both America and Britain. Some people even called for him to be executed. But the woman who brought the charges -- a friend of the dead starlet -- never testified in court because of a past record of extortion, racketeering and bigamy. Neither was the woman an eyewitness to the alleged crime. Arbuckle's first two trials thus ended in hung juries. And the third acquitted him of all crimes. That jury even issued him an apology. But his career was over.
The media pall over his reputation was impossible to overcome. The public and much of Hollywood would never forgive him; all his comeback attempts failed. Indeed, as a result of the scandal, the White House established the Hays Office as the movie industry's moral arbiter and censor. Arbuckle died in 1933, after falling into alcoholism and a lurid obscurity.
****
According to Wikipedia: After British actor Charlie Chaplin joined Keystone Studios in 1914, Arbuckle mentored him. Chaplin's most famous character, "the Tramp", was created after Chaplin adopted Arbuckle's trademark "balloon" baggy pants, boots and undersized hat. Arbuckle also gave Buster Keaton his first film-making work in the 1917 short, The Butcher Boy. They soon became screen partners, with a deadpan Buster soberly assisting the wacky Roscoe during his adventures. And he also gave Bob Hope his break in show business. In 1927, Arbuckle allowed Hope to be the opening act in his comedy show in Cleveland. Roscoe then gave Hope the names and numbers of his friends in Hollywood, telling him to "go west".
****
In the coming weeks, as you read through the 25 crimes Time Magazine has selected, you will wonder which of them will remain in the popular, perhaps even the artistic imagination in the years to come? How will they be retold and with what kinds of lessons and cautions in mind? Visit my blog every Saturday as a new crime will be posted each week.

Back in July, we learned of Madonna's Gaga Nightmare, in August we learned of her second, but in December, Perez Hilton attends the Annual Divas Holiday Ball with "some of the biggest egos on the planet."
And this time around, there's more than just Cher, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Barbara Streisand, and Sue Sylvester attending this ball; Katy Perry, Niki Minaj, Dolly Parton, and many others make a special appearance.

What a Hot Mess: The King That Never Was
WTF! I actually thought Bieber's rendition of Santa Claus Is Coming to Town was a hot mess. But the music video below cuts the cake. Heavy metal band, Alternate Reality released their music video, "The King That Never Was" in late November and it is by far the worst video I have ever seen. OMG, what the hell was this band thinking? Hell, Harry Potter and The Sexy Hallows was a billion times better.
Yeah, I'm sure "The King" is glad he never existed. LOL.

Watch Republicans Literally Walk Out on Democrats Yesterday - Lovely
Astounding, simply astounding. And this is how Republicans address your $1,000 dollars being taken out of your paycheck next year.
So let's see if you got a $1,000 raise this year, you're not going to see it in 2012. You're not! And if you received a $1,000 Christmas bonus this year, save it. You'll need it next year.
In other words, if you receive a bi-weekly check, your check will be $40-60 less than what you originally were receiving. Trust me, you'll feel it. Actually 160 million Americans will feel it. Watch as the GOP speaker pro-tem, walks out as Democrats are pushing for a vote on the Payroll Tax-cut before it expires this month.
Yesterday morning, Speaker Pro Tempore Michael Fitzpatrick (R-PA), under orders from Speaker Boehner, refused to allow Democratic Whip Steny Hoyer to speak on the floor and ask for unanimous consent to bring up the Senate bipartisan compromise to extend the payroll tax cut. Whip Hoyer and Congressman Chris Van Hollen are continuing to try to offer the Senate compromise even though Republicans walked off the floor. Once again, Republicans are risking a tax increase on 160 million Americans and the loss unemployment benefits for those who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own.

It's Purely Animal - Issue No. 42 - Piggy and Puggy Wrestle
Oh, Ryan is gonna love this. I don't like to think about it, but once our little ones have gone across the Rainbow Bridge, he will want a piggy. And I'm going to make sure he gets one dammit. Watch this adorable video of "Piggy" and "Puggy".
From YouTube Description:
Piggy (Tabitha) and Puggy (Susie) the boxer playing together at Hillside. We thought this would be nice for everybody to see, especially our supporters who sponsor Susie at Hillside. Susie was an ex breeding dog, rescued from a Welsh puppy farm. The owner was successfully prosecuted for keeping dogs in atrocious conditions.

Synopsis:
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Battlestar Galactica Ruins Lives!
Luckily for Ryan and I, the television series, "Dallas" didn't ruin our lives, considering it was 13 seasons long! But then again, neither did "North and South", "Star Trek Voyager", "Dexter", "Queer As Folk", "Boston Legal" or "Mad Men". And two of these shows are still running.
But "Battlestar Galactica"on the other hand... That's a whole different ball game! I think if Ryan and I were to sit down and watch the first season, we'd lose our jobs, our utilities, and our home. We wouldn't be able to stop watching it from what I've heard.
Check out this hilarious take on what would happen to you if you started watching the series.

Kiss of the Week - Issue No. 005
When I started my "Kiss of the Week" series in 2007 on Peter's Daily Blog, I never thought I would get as far as I did with it. At the beginning I was only posting photos of two hot guys kissing, but later incorporated a "Quote of the Day" with it - and the rest is history.
Over the next few months I will be posting my original posts and slowly introducing this series to my current BLADE 7184 readers. So without further ado, here's the fifth issue, originally posted on July 21, 2007...

Final Images of the Space Shuttle Atlantis Flight Deck

The lovely folks at collectSPACE were were able to take final images of the Space Shuttle's flight deck, airlock, bay, and a few with the engines out and wheels down.
According to collectSPACE, it is now being prepared for its public display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida. Its insides being pulled out to ensure it is safe for exhibit, as well as significantly lighten it for its planned steep-angled display, Atlantis is scheduled to be powered down this week for the final time.
collectSPACE had the rare opportunity recently to tour Atlantis to photograph its preparation and capture its glass cockpit powered and lit for one of its last times.
The following photo gallery starts on Atlantis' flight deck, and then proceeds to its now mostly empty middeck, out into and above the 60-foot payload bay, and then around and under the winged spacecraft.
These photographs were taken inside Orbiter Processing Facility-2 (OPF-2) at the Kennedy Space Center, where access platforms envelop Atlantis.
Make sure to check out collectSPACE's website to see the entire gallery.
