And you couldn’t have that special day the way your friends do – you know, wear the ring on your finger and have it mean the same thing as everybody else. Just put yourself in that person’s shoes. It makes me feel sick to my stomach …. When I shared a picture of my tattoo on my Twitter page and said, ‘ALL LOVE is equal,’ a lot of people mocked me – they said, ‘What happened to you? You used to be a Christian girl!’ And I said, ‘Well, if you were a true Christian, you would have your facts straight. Christianity is about love.’ The debate resulted in a lot of threats and hate mail to people who agreed and disagreed with me. At one point I had to say, ‘Dude, everyone lay off.’ Can’t people have friendly debates about sensitive topics without it turning into unnecessary threats?” - Pop star Miley Cyrus on her marriage equality tattoo - - - - - - - - - - -

Gabby, It Does Get Better - You Will Get Better

On Sunday afternoon, Gabrielle Giffords released a video statement to her constituents, Congress and to America.  I have finally come around to blogging about it today.

To think that a year ago this week, this lovely woman was shot down in front of hundreds of people, along with the killing of innocent bystanders and supporters of her campaign.  And to know she managed to survive a gunshot to the head is a miracle in itself.

Our city of Houston played a major role in her recovery, and continues to play a part in her rehabilitation.  We've watched her recover month after month, releasing pictures in June and attending a joint session of congress in the fall.  But it's this video that will make your heart melt.  In it she says, "I don't remember much from that horrible day, but I will never forget the trust you placed in me to be your voice," Giffords said. "I will return, and we will work together for Arizona and this great country."

Congresswoman Giffords resigned yesterday afternoon.

Gabrielle Giffords Photos Released

Back in January, if you may recall, Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was brought to Houston's Medical Center for treatment and rehabilitation.  She was part of a horrendous shooting that took place at a political event  held at a grocery store in Tuscon, Arizona.  The gunman walked up to Giffords and shot her in the head at point-blank range.  He, not only injured her, but injured and killed many others - it was a horrible, horrible situation. Everyone feared she would die from her injuries, but instead it turned out to be a miraculous recovery that seldom happens with gunshot wounds to the head.  While she's still having a little difficulty speaking, she has regained a lot of her cognitive abilities.

Yesterday new photos of Giffords surfaced on her Facebook page, which showed her remarkable recovery.  And there's also word that doctors may soon release her to an outpatient program.  So the prospect of home, rest-assured, sounds exciting to her right now.
Check out how well she's doing after jump.

Giffords @ Houston's Medical Center

I just learned a short while ago that Congress- woman Gabrielle Giffords was brought in to Houston to undergo rehabilitation. She will be at Memorial Hermann, one of the nation's best hospitals.  I think it's amazing that she is doing so well after the horrible tragedy in Tuscon, Arizona three weeks ago. I read on CNN that she was having excellent movement on the left side of her body, but that her right

side was weak and parylitic in nature.

We send prayers to her and family as she recovers in our hometown and our state.
