It's been exactly two months since I posted any "Gay Ads That Matter," the last one was on February 8. It's not very often I come across an advertisement that will bring me to tears, but this one does it. Maybe it only brings gay people to tears, I don't know. All I know is... it is one of the most powerful messages I have ever seen.
It was "Stand Up! LGBT Awareness Week" in Ireland last week, and in preparation for this event, Stand Up! released the following public service announcement. Their purpose? To "provide an annual focus for promoting positive awareness of LGBT young people, tackling homophobia and homophobic bullying, and building allies among young people and youth workers."

I posted this one on Facebook last week. It made me cry so much. One of the hardest things a person can do is stand up and speak out when something just isn't right, especially when everybody else thinks it's okay or won't say anything at all. I even find it hard to do it myself at times, which is shameful considering that I wish that more people stood up for me back in school when I was picked on. One girl did at one time back when a whole crowd of people just wouldn't leave me alone back in school. I couldn't do anything but cry during the harassment, but she spoke up and put an end to it. I don't even remember her name, Ashley maybe, but if she is out there somewhere reading this right now; all I can say is Thank You. Hopefully ads like this will inspire more kids and adults to be just like you.
