What gay boy doesn't like movie musicals? I can name one off the top of my head, but he shall remain nameless :-).
Of course, my most favorite movie musical of all time is Grease, but alongside that, I love The Little Shop of Horrors, West Side Story, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Evita, Nine, Moulin Rouge!, Chicago, Rent, Burlesque, and yes, even Grease 2. And there's even the animated ones, but the list would be too long to proceed, so I'll get to the point I'm trying to make.
I can't say that I have ever been more excited about a movie musical release, than the one coming out this summer. Honestly... I was too young to get excited about the release of Grease, and I waited patiently for the release of Burlesque on DVD to finally watch it. But this summer, "Rock of Ages" is going to rock the hell out of movie theaters for the first time in a very looooooong time. I'm super excited about this movie. I guess because the genre of music is from the 80's and the cast singing them are going to be fantastic. Rock of Ages is based on the Broadway musical of the same name.
Directed by So You Think You Can Dance judge, Adam Shankman, the movie stars Tom Cruise, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, Julianne Hough, Mary J. Blige, Bryan Cranston, Malin Ackerman, and features songs from Journey, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, and many, many more! How could this movie possibly go wrong? Check out the superb cast and movie trailer below, and judge for yourself. Will you be watching?
The trailer is finally here, and if you have not seen the original movie, the re-boot pretty much remains true to the original, even going so far as to including Ren's yellow Volkswagen and famous red tuxedo. "We pay homage to the original but it's definitely a new, updated version of it," Kenny told MTV News. "We all were big fans of the original. We keep the heart of the story there, but it's updated."
Up and coming actor, Kenny Wormald plays Ren, and famous Dancing with the Stars alum, Julianne Hough, plays Ariel.
In a quick synopsis, a city boy (Ren) moves to a small town where no one is allowed to dance, nor hear rock music for that matter. He falls in love with Ariel who happens to have a very jealous boyfriend, and a Bible-thumping father. Ren pretty much tries to lead the dispassionate teenagers into a rebellion against the town. I won't go any further, but it is a fun movie to watch - at least the original was. We'll see how this one turns out.
