Christianity is about love.’ The debate resulted in a lot of threats and hate mail to people who agreed and disagreed with me. Spartacus Returns With A Vengeance

And on January 27th, with a vengeance we will watch.  Ryan and I are so excited for the new season of Spartacus, which is awesomely titled Spartacus: Vengeance.

We have Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Spartacus: Blood and Sand on Blu-ray, and OMG the entire series is absolutely fantastic.  If you haven't watched it, you need to.  Sure there's a lot of flesh, but it's satisfying for both straights and gays! LOL.

Here is where the series picks up:
"On the heels of the bloody escape from the House of Batiatus that concluded "Spartacus: Blood and Sand", the gladiator rebellion continues and begins to strike fear into the heart of the Roman Republic in "Spartacus: Vengeance". Gaius Claudius Glaber and his Roman troops are sent to Capua to crush the growing band of freed slaves that Spartacus leads before it can inflict further damage. Spartacus is presented the choice of satisfying his personal need for vengeance against the man that condemned his wife to slavery and eventual death or making the larger sacrifices necessary to keep his budding army from breaking apart. Containing all of the blood-soaked action, exotic sexuality, and villainy and heroism that has come to distinguish the series, the tale of Spartacus resumes in epic fashion." - STARZ
You may recall Andy Whitfield left the series after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma about 2 years ago.  He has since passed away, but his legacy lives on in Liam McIntyre, the new actor who replaced him.

R.I.P. Spartacus

I've talked about Spartacus several times since I started my blog, and nothing saddens me more than to learn that he has died.  While the character has not deceased, the actor who played him, has.

Andy Whitfield, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma about a year and a half ago died over the weekend.  He was only 39 years old.  R.I.P. Andy a.k.a. Spartacus

“The Welsh-born actor who moved to Australia was diagnosed with the disease about a year and a half ago, and bowed out of filming the second season of the Starz show after the cancer was discovered.” - LA Times

"And The gods Shall Weep For Their Suffering!" - Spartacus

Gay or Straight, if you have not seen Spartacus, there is something seriously wrong with you.  If it's two things we all should watch in life, it's Dexter and Spartacus. LOL. These are both fantastic shows with large audiences consisting of  straight and gay folks.
The trailer to Spartacus: Vegeance was released while Ryan and I were in Corpus Christi, and this is the first time I've had the chance see it.

OMG, it's going to be so damn amazing!

You may recall back in February I had mentioned that Andy Whitfield the character who played Spartacus in both Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Spartacus: Blood and Sand had succumbed to cancer.  He has since been recovering, but unfortunately was unable to return.

I will say this, the producers of the show did a fantastic job of finding Liam McIntyre.  He's just as hot as Whitfield, if not hotter.  And OMG, oh so strong.

Ryan and I are super, uber excited!!! We can't wait, I cannot wait.  Watch the trailer below...

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena - Ends Tonight!

It seems just like yesterday when I was blogging about the series premiere of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, but the time has come, the end is nigh.  At 9:00 PM Central Time tonight, with a special extended episode, the series prequel has made the events leading up to this point so much more clearer.  I now understand how things started when we were first introduced to the characters in Spartacus: Blood and Sand.  Watch the preview for tonight's episode, "The Bitter End" here:

Entertainment Weekly has an awesome interview on the progress of Andy Whitfield (Spartacus) and his ongoing struggle with cancer and the direction the new show will take.
Can you give fans an update on how Andy Whitfield is doing?
Last I heard he’s doing great, fighting the good fight, very much concentrating on his health and family. It’s a horrible thing, I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. I have no doubt Andy will beat it. He’s one of the strongest and most centered men I’ve ever met. He’s very private, but I hear third-hand that he looks great and is in high spirits.
Liam McIntyre, who will play Spartacus in season 2, looks a lot like Andy. How important was that?
Not important at all. We were trying to find somebody who didn’t look exactly like him. We saw a thousand people. It came down to a handful of choices. Liam was the only one who resembled Andy. What we really loved about Liam is he had an honesty and intensity and compassion and sympathy in his performance — something that Andy really brought to the role. Spartacus doesn’t come from a place of anger.
You can read more about the new series, when it will air and what to expect tonight without any spoilers being dished out. Check it out at Entertainment Weekly.com.

There's also a special one hour episode of the new series, Camelot after the series finale of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, so make sure to check this out too.

Health & Fitness: The Spartacus Workout

So how do you get your body to look like the characters/actors in Spartacus? How about by advertising on Facebook that you can have your body look like a gladiator in no time?  That's exactly where this workout is derived from. A forum titled SPARTACUS BLOOD AND SAND outlines the Spartacus workout

I have included the workout in my blog, so get to it, what are you waiting for?

This cutting-edge circuit routine will strip away fat and define every muscle in your body.

To create the Spartacus workout, we chose 10 exercises that collectively work every part of your body, and then placed each at a 60-second station, in order to challenge your heart and lungs as well as your muscles. The final product: A high-intensity circuit that’s designed to burn away fat, define your chest, abs, and arms, and send your fitness levels soaring. So you’ll sculpt a lean, athletic-looking body—while getting in the best shape of your life.

Directions
Do The Spartacus Workout 3 days a week. You can either use the routine as your primary weight workout, or if you’re already in great shape, you can use it as a “cardio” workout on the days between your regular weight workouts.

Perform the Spartacus Workout as a circuit, doing one set of each exercise—or “station” in succession. Each station in the circuit lasts for 60 seconds. Do as many reps as you can in that duration (with perfect form), then move on to the next station in the circuit. Give yourself 15 seconds to transition between stations, and rest for 2 minutes after you’ve done one circuit of all 10 exercises. Then repeat 2 times. If you can’t go for the entire minute on an exercise, go as long as you can, rest for a few seconds, then go again until your time at that station is up. This will allow you to customize the workout to your current fitness level. Also, if using weights makes some exercises too difficult, simply perform the same movement without holding the dumbbells.

Station 1: Goblet Squat

Grab a dumbbell and hold it vertically in front of your chest, with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart [A]. Keeping your back naturally arched, push your hips back, bend your knees, and lower your body until the tops of your thighs are at least parallel to the floor. Pause, then push yourself back up to the start. If that’s too hard, do a bodyweight squat instead.

Tip: Lower your hips as deep as you can.

Station 2: Mountain Climber

Assume a pushup position with your arms completely straight. Your body should form a straight line from your head to your ankles [A]. Without allowing your lower-back posture to change, lift your foot off the floor and slowly raise your knee toward your chest [B]. Return to the starting position, and repeat with your left leg, alternating back and forth each repetition.

Tip: Lift your leg as if you’re climbing a mountain.

Station 3: Single-Arm Dumbbell Swing

Grab a dumbbell with an overhand grip and hold it in front of your waist at arm’s length. Keeping your lower back slightly arched, bend at your hips and knees and swing the dumbbell between your legs [A]. Keeping your arm straight, thrust your hips forward, straighten your knees, and swing the dumbbell up to shoulder level as you rise to standing position. Now swing the weight back and forth. At the 30-second mark, switch arms.
Tip: Use momentum to swing your arm up.

You'll be looking like these boys in no time...

Spartacus: Gods of the Arena - Premiere's Tonight!

I'm so freaking excited for tonight's premiere of Spartacus: Gods of the Arena.  Ryan and I watched Spartacus: Blood and Sand over the summer and simply loved it.  Season One's finale was phenomenal and with the departure of Andy Whitfield as Spartacus I didn't think Season Two would ever come into existence.  But news today in my Entertainment Weekly magazine (pg 30), the character has been cast.  Liam McIntyre (The Pacific), which ironically enough, looks like Whitfield, will be reprising the role of Spartacus in season 2.

Supposedly Whitfield will appear in two episodes briefly in the prequel series which will depict the rise of the gladiator school or "ludus" known as the House of Batiatus (John Hannah).  Lucy Lawless, along with other main characters from the show, also returns as Lucretia, Batiatus' wife.

Check out the awesome trailer below:
