It's Purely Animal - Issue No. 52 - Dolphin Stampede
Now this is absolutely fascinating. I guarantee you will never see anything like this in your lifetime. What the hell am I talking about, how am I guaranteeing it? It's a Sunday, forgive me. I'm sure that most Californians would probably see this if they were out boating or fishing for some reason.
A huge, and I mean huge pod of dolphins were spotted off the coast of California last week and it is truly an amazing sight to see. While I've seen many dolphins in my lifetime, I've never seen anything like this.
Well here you go, all it takes is a little reading and obviously you can see them in your lifetime. So I guess I should say "a majority of you" will never see this in your lifetime. Absolutely fascinating to say the least.

Things That Make You Go Hmmm... 10 Colors That Faded Away
In the animal world or the human world, things go extinct every day. Yep, remember the dinosaurs? Yeah - me neither. But in the art world, colors have faded away too. And here are ten colors that have.
Click the chart to enlarge, it's quite fascinating to learn where these 10 colors came from. Like the color Caput-Mortuum, a tarry brown pigment made of ground-up Egyptian mummies. "caput mortuum" means "worthless remains" - now these are Things That Make You Go Hmmm...

Laugh of the Day: The World's Worst Handyman
This is too freaking hilarious. You never hear a word with these videos, but just watching them makes anyone laugh. In this "Just For Laughs" video it doesn't matter how many times the carpenter puts up this shelf, he never gets it right - even when he uses a level.
YouTube: How much skill does it take to hold something straight? Not very much, but with this tricked wall, no matter how good you are, you'll never get it right and she won't hesitate to make you feel terrible for it!

Crimes of the Century - No. 13 - John Wayne Gacy
JOHN WAYNE GACY, 1978
The warning signs were there: the arrest for sodomy with a minor; another sexual offense with a child; the strange smell, like dead things, in his house. But John Wayne Gacy was also an upstanding citizen: he helped out the neighbors, he was the chaplain of the Jaycees, he dressed up as roly-poly Pogo the Clown to entertain children. But when police came asking questions in December 1978, Gacy started confessing. And so the cops looked in the house's 40-ft. crawl space, beneath the garage and under the house. They found the bodies and remains of 28 young men and boys; Gacy said there were four others that he had thrown into the river.
By the end of the year, police had practically torn the house down in their search. There was no question that Gacy would be found guilty; and a jury took barely an hour to come to that decision. He was sentenced to death, under new guidelines that would make sure the penalty was not "cruel and unusual" and therefore within constitutional bounds. But Gacy's execution by lethal injection in 1994 would reopen that question; instead of a five-minute procedure, the process took 18 and Gacy was clearly struggling as he perished. The critics asked: Was this cruel and unusual? His victims' families were unanimous: so was Gacy.
TIME Magazine posted this article online several years ago, along with a list of 24 additional notorious crimes that I have been posting and will continue to post every Saturday on my blog. Hope you enjoy.
***
You can learn more about this notorious killer here, and how he became an embarassment to the Secret Service when he was photographed with the First Lady, Rosalynn Carter in 1978. Gacy was an organizer of a Polish parade that was held in Chicago every year. In the photo, Gacy is wearing a pin with an "S" on it - meaning he received some special clearance by the Secret Service. Geez, it's amazing what you can learn by taking the time to read.

Quoted - Novelist Haruki Murakami on Hatred
“Hatred is like a long, dark shadow. Not even the person it falls upon knows where it comes from, in most cases. It is like a two-edged sword. When you cut the other person, you cut yourself. The more violently you hack at the other person, the more violently you hack at yourself. It can often be fatal. But it is not easy to dispose of. Please be careful... It is very dangerous. Once it has taken root in your heart, hatred is the most difficult thing in the world to shake off.”
- Novelist Haruki Murakami from his novel, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle
Laugh of the Day: Get a New Daddy
OMG! LMAO! Okay children, so if you're not happy with your Daddy, here's a sure way of getting yourself a brand new daddy! I stumbled across this video several years ago, and as stupid as this may sound, it was actually quite funny.
I started ROFL when the kid took shirtless pics of himself with a Polaroid camera and placed them in his mother's dresser. Just another sure way for mommy to get rid of his father and "Get A New Daddy"

What a Hot Mess: Google Searches of Countries or Continents
The wonderful Jason Oberholtzer from I Love Charts has pointed out something I never realized about Google when it comes to doing a search of countries or continents.
Don't do this at work - trust me, it's not safe. But when you search "European", "American", or "African", you pull up lovely images of flags, culture and history; But when you search "Asian" it's not a pretty picture. What a Hot Mess!
The chart below is an example - it's been edited for safe viewing.

Gay Marriage: Nothing to Be Afraid of Anymore by Kevin Drum
Back in 2008, after the passage of Proposition 8 banned gay marriage in California, there was a lot of talk about putting a pro-marriage initiative on the ballot in 2010. That didn't happen, and my read of public opinion at the time suggested we'd be better off waiting a little bit to ensure victory. Time was on our side, after all.
This may all be moot if Prop 8 gets overturned by the Supreme Court, but in any case, it looks like the success of same-sex marriage laws in other states has had a galvanizing effect on California public opinion. According to the Field Poll, about 51 percent of Californians approved of gay marriage in 2008, and that number hadn't budged much by 2010. But their latest poll shows a huge shift: 59 percent of Californians now approve. Read Full Story Here.

World Record Paper Airplane Distance
Who knew things like this even existed?
How many of you remember folding paper airplanes and darting them across school classrooms? I do, I do! LOL. Well, John Collins designed a world-record breaking paper airplane thrown by Joe Ayoob last month. The plane flew 226 feet, 10 inches smashing the old record by 19 feet, 6 inches.
The current record is 207 feet and 4 inches set by Stephen Kreiger in 2003.
The new world record, once verified by Guinness, will be 226 feet, 10 inches. Check out the record-breaking event below.
