“If you can’t love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else?” - RuPaul - - - - - - - - - - - “if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal.” - John F. Kennedy - - - - - - - - - - - - “Imagine finding someone you love more than anything in the world, who you would risk your life for but couldn’t marry. And you couldn’t have that special day the way your friends do – you know, wear the ring on your finger and have it mean the same thing as everybody else. Just put yourself in that person’s shoes. It makes me feel sick to my stomach …. When I shared a picture of my tattoo on my Twitter page and said, ‘ALL LOVE is equal,’ a lot of people mocked me – they said, ‘What happened to you? You used to be a Christian girl!’ And I said, ‘Well, if you were a true Christian, you would have your facts straight. Christianity is about love.’ The debate resulted in a lot of threats and hate mail to people who agreed and disagreed with me. At one point I had to say, ‘Dude, everyone lay off.’ Can’t people have friendly debates about sensitive topics without it turning into unnecessary threats?” - Pop star Miley Cyrus on her marriage equality tattoo - - - - - - - - - - -

Quoted - Republican Senator Mark Kirk on Having an Open Mind and Greater Respect For Others

When I climbed the Capitol steps in January, I promised myself that I would return to the Senate with an open mind and greater respect for others. Same-sex couples should have the right to civil marriage. Our time on this earth is limited, I know that better than most. Life comes down to who you love and who loves you back — government has no place in the middle.

A cultural tide is coming in with the subtlety of a pacific typhoon. Within a week we might have all Democrats supporting equal marriage rights, and before the summer hits who knows how many republicans will also join our cause. The pressure is on the be on the right side of history before it's too late. It only seems like yesterday when I saw Bush on TV saying how much he wants a gay marriage ban in the constitution, and now it seems like people can't be for equal marriage rights fast enough. Behold the power of coming out and revealing the face of gay to be none other then your friends, family and loved ones. You're gonna tell them directly to their face on how they don't deserve the same rights as you? That following decision has always brought with it recognition or shame. Only now the shame is on those who hate, and recognition is for all who continue to love no matter what. It finally is how it should have always been, and with a smile I can say that my pride for my country is changing in the same way as many of it's citizens and politicians are doing now: it's evolving.
