Saturday Morning Coffee Break: The Young Prime Minister

I haven't posted a Saturday Morning Coffee Break since June of last year, and since I'm back in gear with my blogging, there's no time like the present to return.

June's issue was a major tear-jerker, because it was a true story.  And while this one may be fictional - it happens in real life.

Some of us boys grew up in major cities, small towns, or even a farm.  And no matter where we were born, there was always that one little boy who wanted to wear those pink shoes or pink shirt, and when he did - all hell broke loose.

But not this time!

This is a cute short - hope you enjoy.

If you wish to look back at some previous issues, click my logo below and enjoy.  And make sure to check out Saturday Morning Coffee Break every Saturday for another classic or current gay short film.

Blade 7184's 2011 Top 20 +1

It literally took me all day to put this together. But I've listed the Top 20 songs of 2011 I felt were the most popular, most emotional, most danced to, most listened to, and overall, most loved.

The "Plus One" is due to the fact, that I had to single out the artist whom I felt brought the world to it's knees. The power in her voice not only made people cry, but it made them see things in their own relationships with God or their partners they never thought was possible.  Across the seas and across our land, she moved us in a way we could feel the hair on our arms rise as she bellowed each and every lyric.  Adele, you pwned this year's Top 20.  You are my blog's most distinguished Plus One!

20. Set Fire To The Rain by Adele
19. Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera

I Kissed A Girl, And I Liked It !

If you missed last night's episode of Glee, you didn't miss much.  Just the part where Santana came out to her "abuelita" aka grandmother.  Actually, the entire show was about Santana and the support she garnered from the rest of the Glee cast.

The performances featuring hit songs by Pink, K.D. Lang, and Melissa Etheridge, were commendable at best, but it was the "I Kiss A Girl" song by Katy Perry that made the night.   I'm sure it will create a lot of controversy with the religious right, but it was great.

In the end, grandma wants nothing to do with her Latina grandaughter, and kicks her ass out of the house.  "It would have been best to keep it a secret than to disgrace the family," she says.

Uh, sorry grandma, but a liar and a deceiver are two things I wouldn't want to be.

Cover Wars 4 - The Results

I didn't have very many voters this week, but Eypee did manage to pull out a win for his rendition of Pink's hit song, "Fuckin Perfect."  He was up against Peter from the Czech Republic and Marina Braga from Brazil.  The total tally was Eypee 3, Marina 2, and Peter 1.

Congratulations Eypee!  If you ever "Google" your name or a cover to a particular song, and you somehow manage to stumble upon my blog, I wish you the very best on your endeavours.

Cover Wars - Issue No. 4

Cover Wars 4 is here, and figuring out who of these 3 will take home the Gold Record is up to you.  I really had a difficult time finding a good cover to P!nk's "F**kin Perfect."  It is, by far, one of my most favorite songs of the past year, and for me, it is up there with "Born This Way," "Jar of Hearts," and "Rolling in The Deep."

One of the main reasons I love this song so much, is because it deals with suicide, and the yearning for acceptance in this world.  I grew up with thoughts of suicide as a gay adolescent, and up to my early twenties; Let me tell you something, it's not a good feeling to have.

While, many on the right have changed the song to reflect their "Christian" values, or make it about their "relationships," it isn't about that.  Don't get me wrong, there were some excellent covers out there, but I had so much trouble finding a good cover, because of that reason.  It isn't about "less, less than perfect!"  It's "pretty pretty please, don't you ever feel, like your less than f**kin perfect!"

It was the same way with "Born This Way."  Removing the lyrics, or changing them to reflect your own life makes it really difficult when the song is trying to send a different message.  I'm not being hypocritical here.  I mean, there are songs out there where the gender role was changed from "he" to "she," or "her" to "him." I think that's okay, so long as the main message or point is getting across.

Pink quoted,
"Cutting, and suicide, two very different symptoms of the same problem, are gaining on us. (the problem being; alienation and depression. the symptoms; cutting and suicide). I personally don't know a single person who doesn't know at least two of these victims personally." - P!nk.
She also goes on to explain,
"that, while the video may be considered shocking, it is intended to open people's eyes to these problems. In addition, P!nk believes the video is a message to everyone who needs help. Pink described the process of making the video as a “very emotional experience” and related the core theme of “Fuckin' Perfect” to her yet-to-be-born baby, saying, “I have a life inside of me, and I want her or him to know that I will accept him or her with open and loving and welcoming arms. And though I will prepare this little munchkin for a sometimes cruel world, I will also equip this kid to see all the beauty in it as well.” She also noted that she expects the video to “Ruffle some feathers,” meaning it would cause controversy."
Get this through your f**kin heads people.  You need to learn to accept your child for who, and what he is.  If he acts a little girly, and likes to play with dolls, let him.  If he walks or talks a little funny, who gives a shit.  If he grows up loving sports, but you find out he only likes boys - big f**kn deal, He's f**kin perfect!  He or she is your child through and through. No blood about it!

Here are  your top 3 battling it out for the top spot.  I cant decide on who I want to win, so I'm asking for your help.  please make sure to leave a comment with your vote.

First one on the list is Peter from the Czech Republic, followed by Eypee from Berlin, Germany; with the final competitor being Marina Braga from Brazil.

The Battle Rounds

Did any of you watch "The Voice" last night?  It was absolutely television at its best.  No, it literally was.  If you missed the first two weeks of auditions, that's okay, because this part of the series is even more exciting. I was kind of hesitant at first, but after Ryan and I watched last night's episode I had a change of heart.  I can definitely sit through 4 weeks of battle rounds compared to "let's go home" episodes of American Idol.

The way it works is, each judge, Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, and Adam Levine have 8 contestants.  They are to choose 2 members from their team, and let them know what song they're singing.   Once they learn of the song, they are introduced to a celebrity friend of the judge who will help mentor and advise them in preparation for the battle.  Christina chose Australian singer, Sia, Blake chose famous country diva, Reba McEntire, music producer, Adam Blackstone assisted Adam, and Cee Lo chose singer, Monica.

The stage is set up to look like a boxing ring (minus the rope) - it's very glitzy.  The singers are introduced by Carson Daly of MTV fame, and they walk onto the stage to sing their battle song.  Whoever comes out the victor will be performing in front of a live-studio audience in front of America, but their win in this round solely relies on their judge.

In the following video, Frenchie and Tarralyn Ramsey battle it out, singing, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" by Beyonce
Frenchie took home the win, and I definitely agreed with Christina on this. I thought Tarralyn had an attitude problem that needed to be adjusted. She wasn't very respectful. I'm 1-0.

In the following video, Patrick Thomas and Tyler Robinson battle it out, singing, "Burning Love" by Elvis Presley.

I totally disagreed with Blake Shelton on this, and so did my partner, Ryan.  I think he made a mistake playing the "country card" in choosing Patrick.  He needed to look at the fact that it would be much easier for Tyler to move beyond his vocal ability in the live competition.  Patrick could be his downfall, because of his inability to go beyond a "country music" mentality. 1-1

In the following video, Tim Mahoney and Casey Weston battle it out, singing, "Leather and Lace" by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley.

I agreed with Adam's decision on this one - If Casey were to move forward in the competition. I think it would be a lot easier down the road. 2-1

In the following video, Vicci Martinez and Niki Dawson battle it out, singing, "Perfect" by Pink.

Wow oh Wow!  And what a battle it was!  This was definitely the best performance of the night.  My fingers were crossed that it would be Vicci taking this home, and it was!  I was thinking Cee Lo was going to pick Niki, but he obviously felt what I felt, Vicci was ripping it up "hardcore" and he saw something there - he saw a winner! 3-1

As I mentioned earlier, if you haven't seen this, you should.  It is definitely a million times better than IDOL.

Pink's TMC Megamix = Bullseye

Just finished reading my weekly subscription to Entertainment Weekly, and one of my favorite sections in the magazine titled, "The Bullseye," takes a look at the pop culture news that was right on target during the past week and also the events that missed the mark. The video below was right on target according to EW,
"Someone strung together all of Pink's dance hits into one song .  They call it the 'TMC Megamix.' We call it genius."

I'm listening to it now.  And I..... love it.

Then again, I love Pink! She rocks!

P!nk: F**kin' Perfect

If you have not seen Pink's new video, F**kin' Perfect, then you're missing out on a truly awesome musical performance.  This bitch reigns supreme!  I believe that I speak for most of the gay community when I say that growing up we felt imperfect in so many ways; we felt like we didn't belong.  Ryan and I shed tears watching this video.

I recommend you watch it with an open mind and take every word to heart, this video will impact you in ways you have never felt.  I can honestly say, this song deserves to be number one.  Thank you Pink, you're simply amazing!

And for those who are still not sure about themselves, remember, you are perfect in someone's eyes.  There are people out there who love you.
