“If you can’t love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else?” - RuPaul - - - - - - - - - - - “if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal.” - John F. Kennedy - - - - - - - - - - - - “Imagine finding someone you love more than anything in the world, who you would risk your life for but couldn’t marry. And you couldn’t have that special day the way your friends do – you know, wear the ring on your finger and have it mean the same thing as everybody else. Just put yourself in that person’s shoes. It makes me feel sick to my stomach …. When I shared a picture of my tattoo on my Twitter page and said, ‘ALL LOVE is equal,’ a lot of people mocked me – they said, ‘What happened to you? You used to be a Christian girl!’ And I said, ‘Well, if you were a true Christian, you would have your facts straight. Christianity is about love.’ The debate resulted in a lot of threats and hate mail to people who agreed and disagreed with me. At one point I had to say, ‘Dude, everyone lay off.’ Can’t people have friendly debates about sensitive topics without it turning into unnecessary threats?” - Pop star Miley Cyrus on her marriage equality tattoo - - - - - - - - - - -

Movies in Rewind: Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows - Part 2

Ryan and I went to see Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 yesterday morning, because we didn't want to deal with the long lines, and annoying people who love to make noise during the movie.  Besides, it was only $4 a ticket at 10:15 AM, compared to $8.50 for the evening show.

For 10 years we have watched Harry, Ron and Hermione grow, but better yet, we grew with all of them.  It's no wonder why we were emotionally drained after watching this movie.  Almost everyone I know was a child, teenager, or 20-year-old when they watched the first movie.

I moved to Houston in 2001, when the Sorcerer's Stone was released, and it was an extraordinary year for many reasons, not forgetting the 9/11 disasters that put our country in terrible distress.  I will truly miss this amazing saga and it will cherished by millions for generations to come.

So first things first, if you don't want to be spoiled, then don't read this, but if you already read the books, or have already seen the movie, then this issue of "Movies in Rewind" will not bother you.

We already knew Harry was the "Chosen One" since the very first movie, but we didn't know about the Horcruxes, or that he had to destroy them in order to kill Voldermort.  We learned about that in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows Part 1.

Just FYI, Horcruxes "are vessels in which a sorcerer may preserve a portion of his soul indefinitely. Anchoring a part of the soul to the earth by placing it in a Horcrux prevents the sorcerer's soul from going onwards should the sorcerer's body die; the effective result is that, given appropriate spells, the sorcerer can be brought back to life. This is considered to be among the darkest of all magic." - Wikibooks

Well, there were 7 of them, and Harry had to destroy them all by the end of the movie.  The first two had already been destroyed by Dumbledore and Harry, respectively.
  • 1. Marvolo Gaunt's Ring
  • 2. Tom Riddle's Diary
  • 3. Helga Hufflepuff's Cup
  • 4. Salazar Slytherin's Locket
  • 5. Rowena Ravenclaw’s Diadem
  • 6. Harry Potter
  • 7. Voldermort's Snake Nagini

It would take me weeks to write down everything I want to share about the movie. Unfortunately, I don't have that amount of time.

Overall, the movie was absolutely fantastic!  It was full of action, adventure, intrigue and mystery.  The fight scenes were awesome, the deaths of major characters emotionally heart-breaking, and sad. The death of Bellatrix Lestrange by Ron's mother Molly Weasley was exceptionally thrilling - the best part of the movie!

Well.... I honestly can't pinpoint the best part - I enjoyed it all!

This movie deserves a 10 out of 10 rating, or 5 out of 5 stars, take your pick.  I would be surprised if it didn't get nominated for an Academy Award.

Entire Harry Potter Series in Under 7 Minutes

Ryan and I are currently watching all the Harry Potter movies before this weekend's release of The Deathly Hallows - Part 2.  But if you don't have the time to watch all the movies, then by all means watch the following video.
It's not only informative, but quite entertaining.  I loved it, and learned a few things I didn't know before.  Oh, and it will make you laugh too!

Movies in Lego: Summer 2011

Back in February, Nextmovie.com released several movie posters before the Oscars which depicted the nominees for Best Motion Picture, all in Lego; I thought they were outrageously hilarious.

Nextmovie.com has now released their rendition of this Summer's blockbuster movies in similar fashion, and they are equally cute and funny.

Green Lantern, Captain America, and Thor are my favorites :-)
