Foods That Will Make You Fat - Issue No. 15

I don't even know where to begin with today's issue of "Foods That Will Make You Fat."  Geez, really?  What the hell? Do people actually eat this crap?  I've been asking myself this same question for the past 13 issues, and I still can't get an answer.  All I know is, people have issues.

The Cornhole

How does one eat a cornhole?  Really?  How on God's green earth do I eat this thing?  Am I supposed to eat it from the outside in?  I don't give a shit, it's disgusting!  Not sure what all it consists of, but from what I can see, it looks like a corn on the cob, some hot dogs, cheese and some type of meat loaf breading around it.  Yeah, this will make you fat.

The Bacon Mug

Anyone who has the time to make a mug out of bacon has got too much on their hands.  Are people actually getting paid to make this thing?  I'm not even going to ask what the hell is in that mug.

Krispy Kreme Bacon Cheddar Burgers

I'm going to say that Krispy Kreme is in no way responsible for this mess, because if they are, you have every right to sue their asses. Let's see...you have a glazed doughnut, which has a gazillion calories and fat, a thick beef patty, fried bacon and some cheesy cheddar cheese.  Yeah, it's a hot mess, if you ask me.

How To Make a 32 Foot Concrete Bear Holding a Pillow

Yeah, I thought the same thing.  How?  Well, this remarkable video follows the creation by Florentijn Hofman who took this challenge, and decided to record it's construction from start to finish.  The video is only 6 minutes, so it wouldn't hurt to check it out.  It was entertaining, and pretty cool.

The bear was named "Steel Man" and was placed in a neighborhood in Amsterdam.

One Giant Leap For Mankind

On Friday I blogged about the last space shuttle mission that occurred on July 8th, and the lasting impact it has left on all of us. It was an era in space exploration that spanned over 3 decades.

FATHOMS - An Animated Sci-Fi Film With a Heart

I wanted to blog about this earlier in the week, but I just never got around to doing it, but I'm actually fascinated with movies like this.  It's only a 20-minute film, but the story behind it is what drew me to it. 

Filmmaker Joe Russ has created a film that revolves around a cat named Hippo, and two humans, Sam and Evan who are surviving in a salvage submarine through the remains of New York.  The city was destroyed along with the rest of the world in some sort of Environmental meltdown, which has left most of the earth underwater.  He is hoping to raise $7,500 to finish the film, and is asking for help.  If there was a way, I would, but like most of America, we're in crunch.

Russ describes his movie, "Fathoms" like this:

The ice caps have melted. The air is filled with a poisonous smog. No land. No safety. Sam and Evan, along with their rescued cat, Hippo, pilot the scavenger Arken, a salvaging submarine. Together, they search the endless seas for organic life and raw materials to help rebuild their world.

Sam is still holding onto her past, trying to stay ever hopeful in the face of a ever darker reality. Evan, like a father, is trying to keep them safe and ever moving forward. Hippo has no idea what's going on...he's just a cat!

WHAT'S THE TIMELINE?

Based on the animated storyboard sequence I have created, FATHOMS will be around 20 minutes long...so there is a lot to animate! I am starting full-on production as soon as Kickstarter wraps up. I will be animating through the summer and fall, then rendering, fixing things, and doing compositing in the winter. The goal is to complete the film by the end quarter one, 2012...sooner if possible! Part of the time will be involved in rendering...and a lot of the time will be involved in animating...it just takes time!

It's Not An Ice Cream Truck Any Longer...

Just when you thought Cazwell and his boys were done selling ice cream from their, "Ice Cream Truck," they're back selling frozen yogurt. 

Gay NYC rapper, Cazwell actually agreed to switch out the "Ice Cream" for "Yogurt" to make a commercial for the British Company, SNOG.  The treat shop sells Pure Frozen Yogurt.


Pretty cool to be able to get an endorsement deal like this. Cazwell was offered the deal back in the fall of 2010, when the video for "Ice Cream Truck" went viral on YouTube and the club scene.

In recent weeks, I have been posting video segments on the "The Joys of Being a Parent," and today is no exception.  I bet this kid's parents were either surprised their kid could dance like this, or they're extremely proud he's so talented. Regardless, this is what being a parent is all about.

Movies to Watch: Iron Lady (First Teaser Trailer)

Back in February I wrote a post titled, "Margaret Thatcher's Long Lost Twin Sister Appears!"  It actually wasn't her sister, but instead Meryl Streep portraying the "Iron Lady," Britain's first woman Prime Minister.  

As I stated in my February post, she was to Britain, what Ronald Reagan was to us, a BIG F**KING MISTAKE!

Margaret Thatcher was known as the "Iron Lady," for leading a country with an Iron hand, so it was only fitting for Hollywood to make an Oscar worthy movie for her, and Streep.

Well, the first teaser trailer is out, and damn - it is downright scary!  It's like Margaret Thatcher has been reborn.

"Let's Light This Fire One More Time"

Sadly, yesterday's successful launched marked the last shuttle flight for the NASA program.  

In what spanned 3 decades, it is constant reminder of how much our country has achieved in such a short amount of time.  

I have lived through these 30 years, and the stories I will share with my nieces and nephews will be beyond measure.  We have seen, happiness, we have seen tragedy, but through it all, we stuck together as one nation.  God Bless the USA.

The shuttle was visible for 42 seconds before disappearing into the clouds.

It will be at least three years - possibly five or more - before astronauts are launched again from U.S. soil, and so this final journey of the shuttle era packed in crowds and roused emotions on a scale not seen since the Apollo moon shots. NASA has set of long-term goal of flying to an asteroid and eventually Mars.

"Take a deep breath. Enjoy a little time here with your families again. But we've got a lot of work to do. We've got another program that we've got to get under way," NASA Administrator Charles Bolden told the launch control team after Atlantis reached orbit. He added: "We know what we're doing. We know how to get there. We've just got to convince everybody else that we know what we're doing."

A First Look At The New Series, DALLAS, on TNT Monday!

As most of you are aware, Ryan and I are fans of the television series, "Dallas."  Okay, well... maybe me, more-so than him, but that's besides the point. :-)

Back on April 25, I gave this brief little excerpt:

After two long years (357 episodes of oil drilling, backstabbing, and back-handed deals that included sex, adultery, alcohol, drugs, gays, murderers, and BBQs), Ryan and I finished watching 14 seasons of one of the world's most-beloved televisions series of all time - DALLAS. 

And boy, was it great!  We loved every bit of the drama and intrigue that came with the show.   After a long time waiting, we are finally getting a teaser this Monday on TNT while we watch the season premiere of "The Closer."   

The return of Dallas doesn't actually start till next summer, but I'm fine with that, I can wait 10 more months, it's no biggie.  If you're interested in a really cool intro, check out the TNT website for the show - it's really, really awesome.  Can you tell I'm excited? Things That Make You Go Hmmm... The Naked Mole Rat

I originally started this series on Facebook back in 2010, and it successfully ran for 67 issues.  I enjoyed reading up on these facts, and sharing them with my friends.  I've always felt that it's the small things in life, that impress us the most, hence, I'm re-booting the series on my blog.  I will start out by posting past issues, and slowly transition to some new and interesting facts.

Today's issue begins with a small rodent.  I was reading an article today about the Naked Mole Rat, and had to re-post this issue from my Facebook years.

Naked Mole Rats are immune to cancer. They have an additional gene to prevent cell growth.  In addition, naked mole rats cannot feel pain because they lack a neurotransmitter that other mammals have called Substance P that sends pain signals to the brain. They also are one of the only mammals known to be eusocial; they live underground in colonies with a queen like ants and bees. They mostly eat tubers (like potatoes) and their own feces, and they live very long lives spanning 3 decades!

Dr Joao Pedro Magalhaes explains:

"The naked mole-rat has fascinated scientists for many years, but it wasn't until a few years ago that we discovered that it could live for such a long period of time. It is not much bigger than a mouse, which normally lives up to four years, and yet this particular underground rodent lives for three decades in good health. It is an interesting example of how much we still have to learn about the mechanisms of aging.

"We aim to use the naked mole-rat genome to understand the level of resistance it has to disease, particularly cancer, as this might give us more clues as to why some animals and humans are more prone to disease than others. With this work, we want to establish the naked mole-rat as the first model of resistance to chronic diseases of aging."

Stunning Video of The Dust Storm that Moved Through Phoenix on Wednesday

I can't imagine living back in the early 19th century when dust storms were prevalent.  Imagine waking up one morning, tending to your crops, or farm animals, when, not too far in the distance, you notice a huge brownish-black cloud heading towards you. These weren't just ordinary clouds, they were huge storms of wind, dust, and depending how powerful they were, other elements of nature that were carried with them too.  

Dust storms like the one that occurred in Phoenix, Arizona two days ago, were common in the western days; Especially in the mid-west, down from Texas up to the Dakotas.  While almost everyone calls them sandstorms; here in the states we tend to call them dust storms.  Unbeknownst to you, they still occur in "arid regions throughout the world," known as haboobs.

These amazing pictures were shot by two photographers - Mike Olbinski and Blaine Coury - in Arizona. These time-lapse videos show a wall of dust moving through the city of Phoenix in Arizona. Sandstorms like this happen during the region's monsoon season, which is underway. They occur over desert land and can reach thousands of feet into the air, spurred by strong winds. The dense cloud dramatically reduced visibility, grounding flights at a major airport and leaving thousands without electricity. p.s. A haboob is a type of intense sandstorm commonly observed in arid regions throughout the world.

Proud To Be A Gay American

In the midst of discrimination, hate and everything else that could go wrong in our world, it's videos like this that make me...

Under all the normal circumstances, I would have clicked this video, only because I saw a cute, shirtless guy, and not so much to hear what he had to say.  This just goes to prove how most gay or straight people are.  In either case, this video you're about to see, really shows us how beautiful some people can be, inside and out, regardless if they speak or not.

Keith Edwards, the hottie pictured in the video below, really doesn't say much.  In fact he doesn't say a word.  Instead he shows us a very "unoriginal" idea - communication through paper with written words on them.  Did he get his message across?  Hell yes, he did.  And I will help him spread it around.

Daniel Joseph Baker Leaves You Speechless

You may recall, back on June10th I wrote a post on the very gay, and adorable Daniel Joseph Baker, who impressed the judges with his performance of "Bad Romance" by Lady Gaga.  In last night's "Vegas Round" there was no exception.

Daniel, once again wowed the judges with his rendition of Lady Gaga's hit song, "Speechless."

Prior to his performance, Daniel made it a point to let people know that he was doing this for his parents, because without them he felt he could never have made it with all the bullying in his life.  

The son of a white mother and black father, his emotions brought out the best in him.  In tears, he stated he wanted to give his parents the best performance he could, because he wanted to call and let them know he made it through to Hollywood.

The song was so powerful, and personal, that the other contestants were in awe with his performance. After the judge's critiques, he earned a spot in the Top 48.   

He wanted to let his parents know that everything they've done for him in his life, has paid off.  Daniel, I think it already has....  Congratulations, you deserve it!  GAY POWER!!!!

Must Watch: Together You and I

If there is one woman who can defy so many odds, it's Dolly Parton.  One of the biggest, if not the biggest gay icons in all of music, Dolly has managed to garner 25 number one singles, and 41 top-ten country albums.  She is the epitome of glamour and ageless beauty.

Dolly has recently released a new music video, "Together You and I," to rave reviews, and the 65 year old artist has shown that she can still belt it out like the rest of them. She wrote the uplifting lyrics due to current events, like bad weather, unemployment, and terrorists.

"I wanted to do something uplifting so even in the losing songs, I'm saying you're going to pick up the pieces," Dolly said in an interview with Billboard. "It seemed that with everything being so doomsday-terrorists and bad weather and unemployment-we need a little sunshine."

In the video, Dolly sings the uplifting lyrics as people on the bridge begin to hold hands and smile at each other.  I absolutely love it, because as much as the conservative folks love her, they hate her undying love for everyone around her - the gays, the Muslims, the Latinos, the poor, the unemployed, the list goes on.  To her, it doesn't matter who you are, and who you love, we are all people in her eyes.  And this is how it should be...us making a difference, "Together You and I."  

I Will Always Love You, Dolly! Thank you!
