“If you can’t love yourself, how the hell you gonna love somebody else?” - RuPaul - - - - - - - - - - - “if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal.” - John F. Kennedy - - - - - - - - - - - - “Imagine finding someone you love more than anything in the world, who you would risk your life for but couldn’t marry. And you couldn’t have that special day the way your friends do – you know, wear the ring on your finger and have it mean the same thing as everybody else. Just put yourself in that person’s shoes. It makes me feel sick to my stomach …. When I shared a picture of my tattoo on my Twitter page and said, ‘ALL LOVE is equal,’ a lot of people mocked me – they said, ‘What happened to you? You used to be a Christian girl!’ And I said, ‘Well, if you were a true Christian, you would have your facts straight. Christianity is about love.’ The debate resulted in a lot of threats and hate mail to people who agreed and disagreed with me. At one point I had to say, ‘Dude, everyone lay off.’ Can’t people have friendly debates about sensitive topics without it turning into unnecessary threats?” - Pop star Miley Cyrus on her marriage equality tattoo - - - - - - - - - - -

Food You'll Eat At The Office: A Breakdown

I can't recall how many times I dove into the donut basket at work.  It was quite a bit, but that was over a year ago.  I don't even drink Diet Coke anymore; I may have one a month, maybe.  And whenever we had parties or potlucks - the amount of junk food was endless.  Sure, they provided salad, but who wanted salad when there was pizza, chicken fettuccine, brisket, hot dogs, burgers, etc. etc.?

The following chart breaks down the different foods you'd eat while at the office.  And I'd have to say it's pretty spot-on.  From the upcoming book, To My Assistant: Things I'll Never Do to You, But Many Other Crazy Bosses Will.
I'm happy to say that I am now one of the 3%.

Just Sayn'

Quoted - Pastor Jay Bakker on Churches Refusal to Support Gays and Welcome Them Into Their Flock Is a Sin

“This is sin on a level that most churches ignore. This is sin; meaning, that which destroys. That which is destructive, which causes hurt in other people and perhaps even in your own life. When people lose their jobs, aren’t promoted, are discriminated against, are treated differently, are described as `gay’ as an insult, get kicked out of churches, and are disowned by their families, that is sin.”

It's Purely Animal - Issue No. 61 - Ferrets Go Nuts Over Packing Peanuts

This video is too cute.  It reminds me of my first experience with a ball pit, LOL.  Watch as these ferrets go crazy when they discover the joy of packing peanuts.

Can Texas Secede From The Union?

NOOOOO!!!

Our wonderful Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, has threatened to secede from the Union many times, and yet this nut job doesn't know it never can.  Don't ask me why he's our Governor; I ask myself that every day.  Lol.  Actually, I'll tell you why, it's because of all the itty bitty towns you see in red to the West, North West, East and North East.  And a few in the South.

All that aside, one of my favorite YouTube Vloggers, CGPGrey is back.  He explains that by law, Texas can divide itself into 5 states, but secede?  Not so much.

If you liked this video you will definitely want to check out CGPgrey's other fantastic videos I previously blogged about.

Quick-Pic 004: Little Romeo Beckham, A Doll

Awww, the cute and adorable son of Posh Spice aka Victoria Beckham and Soccer pro, David Beckham wanted a doll so they took their little Romeo to American Girl and had one made.  For those who have no idea what American Girl is, it is the equivalent to Build-A-Bear Workshop, except instead of building a bear - you build yourself a doll.  It brings a tear to my eye seeing parents engaging their child like this.  Kudos to the Beckhams!

This is just another example of how the world is changing around us.  It truly does get better!

Post-it Note Arcade - Stop Motion Animation

So this is pretty darn cool.  Using 4,800 Post-it Notes, Michael Birken took 5,722 still images and created a stop-motion masterpiece.  The film is derived from two of his favorite childhood arcade games, Pac-Man and Super Mario Bros..

According to his YouTube page, Michael posted the notes on various walls in his office and took shots one frame at a time.  It took him over 11 months to complete.

It is really fun to watch, check it out.  It reminds me of that other fabulous Post-it note creation I posted 2 years ago, "The Power of Love".

Crimes of the Century - No. 18 - The Collapse of Barings Bank, 1995

THE COLLAPSE OF BARINGS BANK, 1995

Barings was the oldest investment bank in Britain, listing among its clients the Queen herself.

Indeed, the bank's pedigree was so distinguished that it did not have a logo, it had a crest. And yet, in order to survive in the late 20th century, Barings called on young, not necessarily upper-class go-getters who knew how to work the new instruments of global finance like derivatives. Among these hungry young climbers was Nick Leeson, the son of a council estates plasterer.

Starting in Barings' back office, he proved himself adept at understanding the derivatives market and soon found himself stationed in Singapore, betting on market shifts around the world. At one point, his speculations accounted for 10% of Barings profits. He was a star. But he also knew how to manipulate the internal system and created a secret Barings account whose losses the bank automatically covered. He started risking huge amounts of money on the Nikkei, betting that the Japanese stock market would go up. Instead it went crashing down with a gigantic earthquake in Kobe on Jan. 17, 1995. Leeson's losses mounted quickly until he realized they would swamp not only him but all of Barings. And indeed it did. They came to more than $1 billion, an amount the bank could not cover. It collapsed that March and was bought by the Dutch financial company ING for one British pound. Leeson fled but was extradited to Singapore where he served six and a half years for fraud. He is now the manager of a soccer team in Scotland.

It's crazy to go back and read about something like this.  Especially knowing that none of the banks who had a part in our financial crisis a few years ago will ever be prosecuted.  The statute of limitations for fraud or federal offenses is only 5 years.  This means they'll be getting away from their money laundering, securities fraud and interest-rate rigging schemes.  To read more about Barings Bank, go here. Cyanide and Happiness: Morse Code

Must Watch: Cargo

I don't even know where to begin with this.  As all of you know I'm a fan of short film, and if this film were up for an Oscar it would definitely take one home.

The movie, Cargo may be a little too emotional for some of you, or it may help you re-evaluate your life and how you treat the ones you love a little differently.

While there are many shows and movies introducing us the Zombie world, aka The Walking Dead, Evil Dead, and World War Z.  This 7 minute flim packs a punch greater than what The Walking Dead could have given us in three seasons put together.

Take a look at what this father does to protect his beautiful baby girl from the Zombie apocalypse.  He's been bitten, so he has very little time.

Disney Prince of the Week 012

I haven't posted a Disney Prince of the Week since last June so I guess it's about time.  Can you guess the movie and the name of the character who played this week's Prince?

While he's technically not a Prince in the movie, the artist considers him the girl counter-part of a Disney Animated movie.  Hence in the eyes of the artist, he's a Prince of Disney.

Movies to Watch - Maybe - Carrie

Personally,  I think re-making a classic Stephen King movie such as Carrie is like an amateur producer asking, "Why don't we re-make the musical, Grease?".  Okay, so maybe I'm being a little too facetious.

All kidding aside, the upcoming movie, Carrie looks pretty darn good even though I have reservations about it.  Here's the trailer in case you haven't seen it.  The power of Christ compels you to.

15 Hilairous Detention Slips

Ahhh, those dreaded detention slips most of you boys got while in High School and Grade School.

Seriously, what was this boy, Khai thinking?  "Khai was running around yelling 'Seal of command fades, I cast seal of command, I cast holy shock. he then punched a boy in the mouth and yelled Hammer of Justice"

And boys weren't the only ones who got them, look at Marissa here...  "Disrupting class - claiming to be the reborn Jesus and hitting another student with a Bible"

Check out all 15 below.  Some of them will have you ROFL.

Game of Thrones Wish-Fulfillment

We, Game of Thrones fans, wish things could have been a little more different.  Especially when they killed of our hero, Ned Stark!  Now we're all wishing for Joffrey's death, and a gruesome one at that.  Well, the folks over at College Humor have put together an excellent parody titled, Game of Thrones Wish-Fulfillment, which finds all of our wishes becoming a reality.  Check it out, it's pretty humorous.

Quoted - Republican Senator Mark Kirk on Having an Open Mind and Greater Respect For Others

“When I climbed the Capitol steps in January, I promised myself that I would return to the Senate with an open mind and greater respect for others. Same-sex couples should have the right to civil marriage. Our time on this earth is limited, I know that better than most. Life comes down to who you love and who loves you back — government has no place in the middle.”

– Republican Senator Mark Kirk, whose stroke in 2012 allowed him to see things in a different perspective.  The senator endorsed gay marriage on Tuesday, April 2nd. (BuzzFeed)

Gun Violence - The Bible Belt - A Sea of Red

I find it kind of ironic that the states with the most gun-violence, are in the states with the most - God-fearing, Muslim-hating, Republican-leaning, Gay bashing people in the country.  Oh, and while we've had an increase of gun-violence in the state of Texas over the last several months - the state is huge, so that's why its suprisingly yellow.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) and its allies in Congress frequently claim that gun violence is highest in places with the toughest crime laws. But a new study from the Center for American Progress (CAP) suggests something closer to the opposite is true — the states with laxer gun laws tend to be the ones contributing the highest shares of national gun deaths and injuries.
